Step-by-Step Guide to NDA Exam Pattern and Syllabus by Nation Defence Academy


For young people who want to join the Indian Armed Forces, the National Defence Academy (NDA) serves as their entry point. The NDA exam is administered annually by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to select applicants for the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings. Candidates must understand  the

• NDA Eligibility Criteria


Applicants must confirm that they meet the following requirements before applying for the NDA exam:


✔ Nationality: Eligible candidates must be Indian citizens, subjects of Bhutan or Nepal, or Tibetan refugees who arrived in India before January 1, 1962.


✔ Age Requirement: The age of the candidate must be between 16.5 and 19.5 years old.


✔ Marital Status: Only single men and women are eligible.



Educational Qualification:

✔ For the Army Wing: Completed Class 12 or an equivalent test.

✔ For the Naval Wing and Air Force: Completed Class 12 in Mathematics and Physics.


✔ Physical Standards: In accordance with defense requirements, candidates must be in good physical and medical condition.

• NDA Exam Pattern:


The exam consists of two parts: the written exam and the SSB interview.


Written Test


✔ 300 points in mathematics

✔ 600 points on the General Ability Test (GAT)

✔ Each paper takes two and a half hours to complete.

✔ Topics related to science, current affairs, general knowledge, and English are covered in the GAT Section.


Interview for SSB


✔Conducted in two phases: interviews, group testing, psychological testing, and officer intelligence testing.

✔ Total points: 900


Therefore, the entire test is worth 1800 points (written plus SSB).


• Syllabus Highlights


✔ Mathematics: Geometry, Statistics, Probability, Calculus, Algebra, and Trigonometry.


✔ The General Ability Test: General science, geography, History, Vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, and current events.
